Staple/Shape
Finish

Reed blanks for oboe players who want to speed up the reed making process.  THIS IS NOT A FINISHED REED. Customize your blanks during checkout to choose your staple type and the degree to which you would like the reed completed.

Staple Type (choose during checkout):
- Chudnow E47, brass, 47 mm, O-rings
- Chiarugi 2+, brass, 47mm, cork
- Economy-style, brass, student staples, which can vary in length from 46-47 mm, made with synthetic cork

The Chiarugi and Chudnow staples have very similar dimensions.  Both of these staple types can be a tight fit in some reed wells. For the Chiarugi (natural cork) staples, using cork grease is advised, and you may file the cork narrower as needed. For the Chudnow staples, using cork grease can help with a tight fit.

Finish (choose during checkout):
- Blank: The reed will be tied, but will not have any scraping done
- Tip scraped: After the reed is tied, I will scrape a rough V-shaped tip into place (tip will not be clipped open).
- Long Scrape: After the reed is tied, I will scrape a rough V-shaped tip into place, as well as long scrapes that define the spine and rails (tip will not be clipped open).
- Profiled: After the reed is tied, I will scrape a rough V-shaped tip into place, as well as long scrapes that define the spine and rails. While closed, the reed will be left to dry for at least 24 hours. Then the reed will be re-soaked, the tip will be clipped open, and reed will be profiled on a Reeds 'n Stuff profiling machine with a US3 template, which will define the tip, leaving a thick spine and center of tip. THIS IS NOT A FINISHED REED. Additional scraping will be required.

Tie length:
- 72-73 mm for reeds tied on Chiarugi (natural cork) or Chudnow (o-ring) staples
- 71-72 mm for reeds ties on student staples (synthetic cork)

Shape:
- Joshua +2: Shaped on a Reeds 'n Stuff shaping machine. The shape may differ from cane shaped using a traditional shaper tip of the same name

Packing:
Reed blanks are packaged in a compact cardstock box (environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Only intended for one-time use. This is the default option). Or you may request that the reeds be packaged in plastic vials with cotton at the bottom to protect the tip (recommended if you do not plan to transfer your reeds to a reed case). Reeds are then shipped in a sturdy cardboard box.

If you have any questions or requests, feel free to send me a message. Thread color varies, but let me know if you have a request for a specific color.

Refund Policy:
If a reed arrives cracked or damaged, please notify me within 48 hours with picture-proof, and I'll replace it at no cost.  If dissatisfied with the quality of the reed, you may send it back within 48 hours for a replacement or refund.
